Your home keeps working: the system's “brain” is a small box in your house, not a server somewhere on the internet. Switches, scenes and automations all work without internet. For power cuts we can add a battery, so the essentials (lights, gates, cameras) keep running while the neighbours are in the dark.
Less than you'd think. A smart 2-room condo is usually around 70,000–90,000 baht, a 3-bedroom villa from 120,000. And you don't have to do everything at once: many people start with air-con and lighting and add the rest later. Plus, a house that switches off what isn't needed spends less on electricity.
